Field Guides do not make note of an apiculus, but a significant number of spores appear to have an apiculus at the one end. This specimen was verified by Jay Justice, Walt Sundberg and Andy Methven. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Lentinus tigrinus.
