SPORE DESCRIPTION
Spore length: 6.6 - 11 microns
Spore width: 4 - 6.5 microns
Spore color: Clear
Spore texture: Roughened with pore at one end.
Spore shape: Ellipsoid
Spore print color: Rusty brown to orange brown
Chemical reaction: Cap turned red-black with KOH.
 
This is a very confusing specimen as the gills are light colored and attached and some are notched. The only reference that I could find, besides Dr. Methven's identification at the time of collection, was Michael Kuo's website: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/gymnopilus_fulvosquamulosus.html. However, close examination again by Dr. Methven in 2015(see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Gymnopilus fulvosquamulosus.
