This was an early fruiting and the largest cluster I have see of the 4 fruiting bodies. It fruited on the host dead elm about 28cm or 11 inches up the trunk. The tree was 22cm or 8½ inches in circumference and 6.5cm or 2½ inches in diameter, and not over 3 meters tall. For additional information on this species, not this specimen, refer to Michael Kuo's website - http://www.mushroomexpert.com/polyporus_umbellatus.html. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Polyporus umbellatus.
