1946 - 2017
Our dear friend, Brad Bomanz, passed away on September 21 after a serious traffic accident on September 11. Brad was the backbone of MOMS. He did so much for us. He taught classes, did vouchering and DNA testing, he was on the board, he was Executive Secretary, he was our webmaster, and he always did more than anyone ever expected. Brad was there when anyone needed him...and continued to always have a smile on his face. What a dear person he was. We will miss him so much.
Brad was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. After graduating CBC (Christian Brothers College) High School in 1964, Brad worked at St. Louis County Health Department as a health inspector for restaurants and various venues in the St. Louis County area He ended his 3o+ year career at the County as a Plan Review Engineer. This type of work caused Brad to become a very concerned conservationist of our planet’s natural resources. Brad was a proud Eagle Scout and used many of those skills to become a passionate mycophile and outdoor enthusiast. He was a dedicated supporter of the Missouri Mycological Society (MOMS), holding various administrative positions and most recently worked with the Missouri Botanical Gardens on gene sequencing for MOMS. Brad was an extremely health conscious person all of his life and worked out every day. Brad enjoyed life to the fullest and in his retirement years he loved to travel with his wife Julie Bomanz. Brad most recently became an amateur wine connoisseur and foodie. He was a fierce friend, companion, mentor and had a curiosity about life that prompted a hunger for knowledge about all things. He was always willing to lend a hand or his expertise to help all who knew him. Brad was a loving husband, brother, father, stepfather, uncle and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Bomanz, his loving sister, Linda (Don) Reuling, daughter, Renee Bomanz, stepsons Michael, Matthew and Daniel Korklan and one grandchild, Joshua Buijk, along with nieces Carey (David) Doetzel, Laura (Doug) Schukar, and Debbie (Curt) McCracken.
A celebration of Brad’s life will be held on Monday, October 2nd at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, 9001 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63117 at 2pm.
